How and when did The Talent Playbook get started?
The inception of The Talent Playbook dates back almost 6 years ago, right here in Brisbane. My journey in the HR and recruitment realm began even earlier. Still, a decade and a half ago, I felt a compelling urge to create something of my own—a platform that would redefine the traditional approach to talent management.
The idea for our business was born out of a simple observation. While many HR agencies were out there, very few genuinely understood the intricate dance between businesses and their talent. I noticed a gap in the market for a consultancy that didn’t just fill positions but truly partnered with businesses to understand their ethos, culture, and long-term vision.
With this vision, The Talent Playbook was founded. The name itself was symbolic. Just as a playbook in sports contains strategies to navigate challenges and win games, The Talent Playbook was designed to help businesses navigate the complex world of talent management and come out on top.
The early days were filled with challenges, as any start-up journey is. But with a clear vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence, we slowly but surely built our reputation. The turning point came when we were announced as the QLD State Winner of the Australian Achievers Awards in the Customer Excellence category. That recognition was a testament to our dedication and the value we brought to our clients.
Over the years, we’ve evolved, expanded our services, and adapted to the changing landscapes of the industries we serve. But one thing has remained constant: our commitment to serving those who serve others. Today, as I reflect on our journey, I feel immense pride in the community we’ve built, the businesses we’ve transformed, and the countless careers we’ve shaped.
And while we celebrate our past achievements, we’re even more excited about the future. With our incredible team at The Talent Playbook, I’m confident our best days are still ahead!

Launching a small business in today’s market can pose various challenges. Can you share one specific challenge and explain how you successfully navigated it?
Indeed, starting a small business in today’s market has unique challenges. For me, one of the most significant challenges was balancing the demands of a budding business with the responsibilities of having a young family, especially during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lines between work and home blurred and managing became a tightrope walk.
The pandemic brought about uncertainties in the business landscape, and simultaneously, having a young family meant ensuring their safety, well-being, and attending to their needs while being confined at home. The challenge was to ensure that neither the business nor the family felt neglected.
To overcome this, I had to establish clear boundaries and routines. I designated specific work hours and ensured that my time and attention were dedicated solely to my family after those hours. Open communication with my spouse was crucial. We worked as a team, supporting each other, sharing responsibilities, and understanding when one needed to take a step back from family duties to address pressing business matters.
Additionally, I leaned on technology to streamline business operations, making processes more efficient and freeing up valuable time. Embracing flexibility, being adaptable, and prioritising tasks became essential.
In the end, while it was challenging, this period also reinforced the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the value of a robust support system. It taught me that one can navigate even the most challenging circumstances with determination, clear communication, and a bit of strategic planning.
